Oyo state government to equip 120 public schools with off grid solar power to support digital literacy

Oyo state government has unveiled plans to equip about one hundred and twenty public schools with free off grid solar power to complement its digital literacy objectives for schools in Oyo state. This was disclosed by the Special Adviser to Governor Abiola Ajimobi on education, Dr. Bisi Akin-Alabi at the ceremony of the festival of learning organized by the Oyo state Model Education System Interventions (OYOMESI). The Special Adviser on education noted that the state government has begun a power audit of schools to ascertain their needs and appropriately allocate the free off grid solar power.

Dr. Akin-Alabi explained that the festival of learning is a sustainable development goal prerequisite to increase access to qualitative education in Oyo state to guarantee best practices in the education sector. A participant at the festival of learning and administrator of a public school in Ibadan, Mrs Ibironke Moses described the festival as an appropriate solution to the many challenges affecting the sector, while imploring schools in Oyo state to key into the practicability of the initiative for a better education sector.
