NNPC announces plans to resume oil exploration in six weeks time

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced plans to resume oil exploration activities in the Chad Basin of Borno state in the next six weeks.

The Group Managing Director of the NNPC, Dr Maikanti Baru says the resumption of oil exploration activities became necessary following improved security in the North East.

Dr Baru, who was represented by the Chief Operating Office, of the Corporation, Mr Saidi Muhammed, made the announcement during a visit to the Governor of Borno state Kashim Shettima in Maiduguri.

While responding, Governor Shettima said the insurgency had taken a huge toll on the North-East region leading to the loss of more than 9.6 billion dollars, with Borno state alone losing 5.6 billion dollars.
