European Union urges Mexico to conduct swift and transparent investigations into pre-elections violence

The European Union has urged Mexico to investigate murders of journalists and politicians which occurred before the elections in the country. According to a statement by the European Union External Action said, the run-up to the elections was marked by violence. Swift and transparent investigations need to be conducted into those who have been killed, which include a high number of candidates and journalists.

The union said Mexico can count on the full support of the European Union to address these issues, and in further promoting human rights and the rule of law in the country,. The election campaigns at a local level were tainted by a whopping level of violence with two politicians killed just on Sunday.
